The Visnyk of the National Bank of Ukraine is the flagship research publication of the National Bank of Ukraine. Its mission is to disseminate high-quality economic and financial research to the academic community, policymakers, and the broader public. The series strengthens the NBU’s dialogue with scholars and practitioners by providing timely, authoritative analysis that advances economic thought and supports the formulation of effective monetary and financial sector policies in Ukraine and beyond.
Established in 1995 and reformed in 2015 as a peer-reviewed journal, the Visnyk has, since 2025, operated as a research paper series, publishing both Working Papers and Occasional Papers. This transformation reflects the NBU’s commitment to faster, more flexible, and policy-relevant research dissemination, meeting the growing demand for timely analysis during periods of economic change and geopolitical uncertainty.
Under this renewed concept, the Visnyk comprises two complementary streams:
Working Papers – academically oriented, usually early-stage studies presenting original theoretical or empirical research. They provide detailed methodology, data analysis, and references, and are often intended for later submission to peer-reviewed journals. Their primary purpose is to stimulate discussion and invite feedback from the research community and policymakers.
Occasional Papers – concise, policy-focused works such as stand-alone studies, policy notes, conference proceedings, etc. They emphasize clarity, timeliness, and direct relevance for economic and financial decision-making, and are written for a broader audience that includes practitioners and the interested public.
All publications in the Visnyk series undergo a rigorous internal and/or external peer-review process to ensure the highest standards of analytical quality, methodological soundness, and policy relevance. The Visnyk is published in English, accompanied by a Ukrainian abstract, with full Ukrainian translations provided for selected papers.
External contributors, whether as authors or co-authors, are welcome to submit work that aligns with the Research Priorities of the National Bank of Ukraine.
